Kristin Kreuk Interview by Edgemont TV
2001

Was acting a part of your grand plan for yourself?
This all kind of came out of left field for me really. I loved drama class in high school but I was thinking of going to university for psychology or environmental sciences. Then I was recommended for the audition and, scary as it was, I couldn't turn it down.

Were you nervous?
Not too nervous because I didn't think I had a chance. Then they called me back and I thought, "Yeah, right, I'm going to get a part". I still didn't believe it.

The first rehearsal must have been hairy then - all these seasoned actors and you. I was so afraid I'd suck. I was really guarded at first, but everyone is so great that I actually relaxed a little.

You've learned an awful lot in a short time.
I hope so. I've always disliked cameras (still do) and my experience has all been on stage so I was used to big movements, big gestures. For television it's small that counts. It took the first 13 episodes for me to figure out how to work with the camera.

So what are you finding most satisfying about acting?
It involves psychology, which I love, and allows you to express things you wouldn't be able to in real life. It also makes me think about my own life and the choices I make there.

Would you move to the States for work?
I really love Vancouver so I wouldn't want to, but I guess I would if it meant work.

How much alike are you and Laurel?
We've kind of become more alike as time goes by. I guess as you invest yourself in the character the similarities grow. I get old school friends telling me how alike they think she and I are…I guess she is a little like my serious, thinking side, but her fun side doesn't seem to come out nearly as often as mine does. She has ambition, organizational skills (I'm pathetic, I don't know how I got through high school) and very strong opinions about a lot of things; I have strong opinions on a few, select things. Oh, and she takes great photos whereas mine suck -- but I can now load film (with long nails!) because of Laurel and "Edgemont".

Do you have any tattoos?
No, but I've been seriously considering it for a few years. I haven't found anything I'd like etched onto me forever yet. It has to be meaningful.
