Kristin Kreuk loves to take chance. As one of the stars of CBC Television's Edgemont as well as the leading lady in The WB's hit drama Smallville, Kreuk has a career that only those with superhuman strength can maintain, in Smallville, set during superhero Clark Kent's/Superman's high school years, she plays Lana Lang, Clark's friend and co-crime fighter, who happens to work at a coffee shop owned by the soon-to-be super-evil Lex Luthor. But, for this Vancouver-born 21-year old, being in the spotlight wasn't originally on her to-do list. It was at the insistence of her high-school drama teacher that Kreuk auditioned for Edgemont. "I won't get the part, but it will be fun just to experience the audition," she thought. Instead, she walked away with the job of playing Laurel, a hip and savvy teen. During her stint on Edgemont, The WB came calling with Smallville. What would Kreuk be doing if she hadn't take her teacher's advice? She might be solving crimes in her own right, a la CSI. Yes, that CSI. "When I was in school, [I was interested] forensic science. When CSI: Crime Scene Investigation came out, I was, like, 'Hey, that's my job,'" laughs Kreuk. Maybe she'll get the chance to play one on the big screen, a place that is on her to do list. With the Man of Steel watching her back, she is definitely more powerful than any locomotive.
