CLAIM TO FAME
Playing Lana Lang, the object to Clark Kent's affection each week on Smallville.
WHERE YOU'VE SEEN HER BEFORE
In Canadian teen soap opera, Edgemont, as the girlfriend in Eurotrip, as Snow White in a Hallmark Entertainment movie of the same name and currently as a priestess with a great destiny in the Sci Fi Channel miniseries Legend of Earthsea.
WHY WE LOVE HER
We were already loyal devotes of Kristin Kreuk's before spending an afternoon with her while she shot Legend of Earthsea for in Vancouver this past, but it only take an instant for this Canadian born beauty to win us over with her charm.
Not that we haven't been drooling over her portrayal of Lana Lang since Smallville began a few years back. We too had our reservations about The Powers That Be thinking outside the box and daring to cast someone that didn't fit that red-headed farm girl we've always known Lana as from assorted comics, movies and cartoons seen over the years, but from the moment we saw her on screen all our fears dashed away.
Like Lana, Kristin has come a long way since the series began, growing as both an actress and a young woman. It wasn't all that long ago that Kristin was a student at Eric Hamber High, concentrating on her studies while taking the occasional stage work in a school play. By her own definition, she was always "shy and boring."
Everything changed with an exhausting open casting call for the teen soap opera Edgemont, when she was picked for the final remaining role of student Laurel Yeung.
"Edgemont finished shooting last year," explains Kreuk. "It ended with the characters graduating and she and Mark - Her on-again off-again love - kind of made up and decided that they truly loved each other. But they still left it open as to if they got together or went their separate ways."
The opportunity to star in Smallville followed about a year later, with Kristin dividing much of her time over the following years between the two Vancouver sets. As for what's next for Kristin, the actor is the first to admit that the answer to that question is a big a mystery to her as everyone else.
"I have no idea what I want to do with my acting career," she says. "I'm still taking it step-by-step. I guess I just don't know what I want, so I'm taking parts that are interesting and projects that are really great. I'm just talking it day by day. I'm always thinking about going back to school, it's constantly in my mind. But, while I'm working I don't think it is possible, plus I don't think I known how to write a paper anymore. I can't even add or subtract! What I'm trying to do now is keep myself educated and read about the thinks I'm interested in and look around for seminars or people speaking and just make an effort to know."
"And another thing, when you're in high school, there are all these career options just flying past you all the time where you think everything, but when you're not in school... I'm really just working on set and you don't get to try these things. The things I was once passionate about, I don't know if I'm passionate about anymore, because I don't get the opportunity to do it."
Kristin, basically, is passionate about life; It's clear in the way she talks about her education and the books she reads and her other hobbies such as dancing. And with such a loyal fan following around the world, she'll continue to take great roles and allow us to share in her passion.
