Salut
I am
more shy in real life than on television. - Kreuk
When I found out that the sublime Lana Lang was landing in Monaco to participate in the 43rd Festival of Television, I jumped straightaway onto an airplane to meet her! You talk about a godsend, the most rockin’ girl of the series Smallville finally visits our continent. And you know what? We chatted together as if we had known each other always!
In your interviews, you have often said that one of your biggest faults is that you are shy. How does a shy person chose to become a celebrity? It must be a tricky balance.
Kristin: You yourself don't see that I am a little uneasy? Nice! So, what you'd like to say is that I'm a good actress. I hide my emotions well! (laughter esclates) In fact, it is quite funny because I realize I am much more shy in my personal life than during interviews or official ceremonies. It is exactly because when I arrive I have to slip into the skin of an actress and assure that I answer the questions that are posed. In every day life, I am just me and I do not always know which is the best attitude to adopt. But with age (she's just 20 years old!) I am beginning to sort things out. I've started to feel more comfortable in my own shoes.
Don't tell me that a girl as beautiful as you has a complex?
Kristin: You laugh! You try having my legs, or what you might call two canes, they are so thin! (laughs)
Since you act, you have become a role model for young people? How is it? Strange, flattering, frightening?
Kristin: In the beginning, when I started in this profession, it was rather uncomfortable to feel this responsibility on my shoulders. I never had thought that one day someone could admire me, for I am far from being perfect, believe me. Today, when I receive letters or meet fans, I can't ignore the phenomenon. But, I want to say to my fans that the better person to admire is yourself. It is necessary to believe in yourself and not in an image which you see on the television or a poster in your room.
Let's go back over what you said before: "I am far from being perfect." Would you reveal some of your larger faults?
Kristin: Ouch, ouch, ouch! I will roast myself. (Laughs) Journalists tend to present us for our best aspects, but we are all like anyone else. Me, for example, opposite of Lana, I have less confidence when I meet people I don't know. She gives a lot while I protect myself. . .
Monaco, it is a little country of princes and princesses. Do you believe the stories of fairies?
Kristin: I do not believe in the tales of fairies because I know full well they don't exist, but I love them anyway. As with any actor, it is your imagination that helps you bring to life fictitious characters.
Here, this is really the fatherland of luxury. Have you attempted any of the boutiques?
Kristin: This is a place of great glamour, but much too expensive for me.
What luxury do you want?
Kristin: To continue to maintain the great friendships I've had since early in my life. When I am at my place in Vancouver, they are always studying while I evolve in another world, but I would assert to you that when you are at a restaurant, and you meet up around a pizza, you forget these differences and become again just a true band of friends.
When you look at their lives, do you envy them?
Kristin: I am not someone who regrets. My destiny led me down this road, and I took it. Perhaps other girls my age live a certain way, but I'm living my own way. Nevertheless, it is true that, sometimes, I think I would do well to find the job of a student. To work in a restaurant for example, to make a little pocket money. And then, after a few seconds, I realize that is not possible anymore. And I say to myself, "you crazy, old woman." (laughs)
You are a celebrity; you work on a popular series. Nevertheless, you assert you will not be an actress all your life. Do you not like the trade?
Kristin: I love it! But, you know, I never did think it would be like this. It is all a risk, and it is because a producer was seeking an Asian girl and came to my high school theatre teacher to cast. It was a big surprise for me and changed my quiet life. For the moment I am spoiled, but I know how disheartening it can be for an actor that is without work. In my head, I have a backup. . .
