Smallville Girls - Alloy.com

You know them as Clark Kent's two best girls on Smallville, but get ready to see Allison Mack and Kristin Kreuk in a whole new light! They're starting a brand new company, and they need your help. Find out what the girls are up to and what they're like in real life.

Tell us about this survey you're doing for the web portal you're creating.
A:
The web portal is part of a company that we're building [that's] geared toward college students. We're planning on doing some things for the web for college students that have never really been done before. [The survey!] is designed to gather as much information as we can about college students -- what college students want, the types of things that they spent their time doing, the things that they want to see in the world, so the web portal we design is as authentic as possible.

How did you come up with the idea?
K:
Allison and I are both about 25, so we kinda just finished college in some ways. This is a time in our lives when we're very explorative -- we set a lot of our values and things that we want to do with our lives, and we're very introspective. We want to support young people while they're going on that journey and to really encourage their explorations -- that's what this company is all about. We want to do something that's really exciting and unique, and this survey will help us find out exactly what most college students are interested in [and] where their values lie right now so that we can best support them.

Do you guys think you'll ever get a chance to go to college?
K:
I've toyed with the idea of taking classes again, I'm just not sure if it would be the most prudent thing for me to do right now. I might take classes in the future, but I don't think I will go to college and take a whole course load on and do the whole thing -- I don't foresee that.

What's been your favorite season of Smallville?
A:
I think for me last season was my favorite season. I had the most to do last season than I've had to do in all seven years, and I've had the most diverse things to do, so not only was I fighting crime in part, but I had a whole love story going with Jimmy Olsen and then I had some interesting things happening with my mom and my family. I think last season I just got to get in and explore the range of my character more than I ever had on the show.

How has the cast changed over the years?
A:
We've all grown up. Seven years is a long time to be working with people, so I think that between Kristin and I starting at 18 and Tom starting at 24 or 25, we've all really grown up on the show.

Why do you think the show has been so successful?
A:
There are a lot of different elements that play into the success of our show. One is the fact that we all do have such incredible chemistry with one another. I mean, we all just adore each other, and I think that that's very, very rare, and I think it comes across on screen. Another element of the success of the show is the fact that we play all the genres so we appeal to such a wide variety of audience -- we're not just science fiction/comic book, and we're also not just comedy/drama/teen soap. We're all of those things with a little bit of funny mixed in as well. I think the fact that we can appear to so many different audiences because we cover so many genres has a lot to do with the success.
K: And I think that there's a traditional superhero thing that's really popular with people, especially when we started the show, which was right before 9/11, we're a superhero series that's about good and evil and the struggles between good and evil and how good can prevail.

Who's your dream Smallville guest star?
A:
I would love to work with someone like Cate Blanchett or Julianne Moore, but I don't think they're coming on to Smallville anytime soon. You never know, put it out there.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
A:
I think to fly.
K: Me too, I'm a flyer.

What TV shows do you watch?
K: I don't have a TV.

A: Me neither. I have very little self-discipline, so if I had a TV, I would probably sit inside all day and watch the TV and not to all the things that I want to do with my life. So basically, I remove it so I will do other things.

Does working together ever put a strain on your friendship?
K&A:
No!
A: If anything, it enhances our friendship. Every time I look at the call sheet and I see that I'm working with Kristin, I get really excited because I know it's gonna be fun.
K: We have a lot of fun together.

What do you guys do when you're not working?
A:
We create companies, we travel, we watch movies, we go shopping.
K: We drink a lot of coffee -- a lot of coffee.

Kristin's birthday is coming up. How are you celebrating?
A:
We're celebrating her birthday together this year, which is a first in seven years. So we're trying to decide what we want to do, but we're definitely going to be together, which will be very fun.

How would you describe each other?
K:
I think I'd describe Allison as really creative and joyous and curious and explorative and spontaneous. She's a really lovely person who kind of reminds me of a little kid in some ways because she's always trying things and she doesn't know what's gonna happen, but she does it anyway.
A: I think I would describe Kristin as an elegant and graceful woman of beauty and mindful intent. I think she's one of the most compassionate and loving people that I've ever known, and she's such a global thinker and has such an amazing concept of where she wants to go in the world and what she wants to see. I'm constantly inspired by her.
